Dereje Abdissa Getachew is a highly qualified and results-driven healthcare consultant with a multidisciplinary academic background and over a decade of experience in health system strengthening and quality improvement. He holds an MSc in Healthcare Quality, an MBA in Business Administration, and an MA in Sociology. He is also a certified Improvement Advisor from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and has completed several international and specialized trainings in health equity, emergency preparedness, performance-based financing, and systems reform. Dereje has served as a Total Quality Management Improvement Advisor under the USAID-funded Quality Health Activity (QHA) implemented by JSI, where he supported the Oromia Regional Health Bureau in institutionalizing quality management systems and driving strategic improvements across key health programs. Currently serving as a Senior Advisor at the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH) in Ethiopia, Dereje plays a leading role in developing national strategies, guidelines, and training manuals focused on quality improvement, innovation, leadership, health equity, and scaling high-impact interventions. He has successfully contributed to the design and rollout of performance-based financing programs following advanced training from the World Bank and SINA Health in Mombasa, Kenya, and has completed international training at Urla Training Center in Izmir, Turkey, on emergency preparedness. With a proven track record in delivering high-level technical assistance and facilitating capacity-building programs, Dereje’s consultancy approach emphasizes evidence-based practice, equity, and sustainable transformation across all levels of the health system.
